I've never done anything like this before, but for some reason this year I decided what the heck, why not. Our parent company Townsquare Media started this campaign for all employees to join in on a weight loss challenge (if they want to). They're looking to see who can lose the most weight in an eight week time frame and also who can lose the most in a week.

We were notified about the contest the week of July 8th and the first day to log in your weight was July 22nd. Usually during the off months of the racing season I can add on a few pounds, okay... I gain weight in the winter time. I can usually burn it off through the summer between racing and staying active. I started off the racing season around 235 lbs but by the first of July I was down to 212 lbs. I had already lost 23 lbs in an eight week period so I thought I'm probably not going to do very well in this weight loss challenge. Then it dawned on me that the Delaware County Fair & Great Jones County Fair were coming up and it's my chance to bulk up a little. I attended both... enjoyed a few extra foot long corndogs and a few beverages at the shows we attended. By July 22nd I had jumped back up to 218 lbs and could feel the extra weight... a feeling I didn't like.

After the weigh in on July 22nd, I went back to doing my eating lifestyle change. A medium sized salad for lunch and baby carrots for breakfast and then a sensible dinner. Add in working on the racecar & sweating in the hot heat, plus racing and riding my bicycle. My first week I went from 218 lbs to 209 lbs. 9 lbs in a week!!! I'm sure when the Corporate Office saw this and thought it was a misprint, but it's true!!! After the first week's results, I'm your official leader with most weight lost.

In the last two weeks for the weigh in, I've gone from losing one pound to staying even at 208 lbs. I've lost 10 lbs since the challenge started. My key is to stay active whether I'm sweating working on the race car and racing, or riding my bicycle on the Cedar Valley Nature trail. One thing I've noticed is I'll hit plateaus in weight loss and then will start to lose weight again.

My goal is to get and stay under 200 lbs. My ultimate goal is 190 lbs, but I will be happy staying under 200.

Check here again next week as this week is really looking good for weight loss.
