Bigger Shows Bigger Bucks
Working in radio, I hear this A LOT - "there are NEVER any good shows in town. They should bring (insert mega artist) here." It's amazing how fired up people get when concerts come to town. For some, it's a chance to see their favorite act. For others, it's never good enough.
What a lot of people (who constantly complain about the concerts in town) don't understand is the price it takes to bring bands and artists in for a show. Here are just a few examples (all genres) of what bands/artists are charging PER SHOW. Taylor Swift - $1 million, Carrie Underwood - $500,000, Dave Matthews - $1 million, Luke Bryan - $400,000, Bruno Mars - $400,000, and Foo Fighters - $500,000. That's just the tip of the iceberg. To offset those rates, venues and promoters need to charge enough for tickets to make money. The smaller the venue - the higher the ticket price. For example, at $1 million for Dave Matthews - a venue with 10,000 seats would have to charge $100 per ticket - just to make their money back for the artist. Unfortunately, it's all about money. There's a reason they call it the "MUSIC BUSINESS."
