A century-long relationship is ending. Sears has been selling Whirlpool appliances for over 100 years, but you won't be able to buy them there any longer, including at the Cedar Rapids Sears. Sears is also pulling Maytag, KitchenAid, and Jenn-Air products off the floor... they're all divisions of Whirlpool. That's particularly sad news here in eastern Iowa, where Whirlpool, Jenn-Air, and KitchenAid refrigerators are all made at the plant in Middle Amana.

US News says Sears, Roebuck, and Co. started selling Whirlpool products in 1916. The first two products they sold were wringer washers, all via mail order. Sears didn't even have stores then.

Sears told stores last week that the demands Whirlpool was making would have made it hard for the company to sell the products at prices that would allow them to stay competitive.

Sears isn't getting out of the appliance business, though. After selling all the Whirlpool products they have in-house, Kenmore, LG, Samsung, GE, Frigidaire, Electrolux, and Bosch appliances will remain available at Sears stores.
