It was Friday and I left work much like any other day.  As I was driving home I heard sirens and saw a few lights behind me in downtown Cedar Rapids.  I was stopped at a stop sign when two CRPD squad cars came flying down the street past me.  It was then that I realized something was going on.  As I continued to the stoplight ahead, I saw officers sprinting past me and even more cars flying down the street.  They were all flocking to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art - which was RIGHT WHERE I WAS SITTING AT THE STOPLIGHT.  I froze as even more cars - both marked and unmarked came to screeching halts all around me and officers got out and ran.

It was like I was in the middle of an episode of COPS.  I had never been in the middle of anything like this before.  I had no idea what was happening, but when I got home I found out the bank down the street from where I was at had been robbed and police were in pursuit of the bad guy.  They caught him (thanks to witnesses who told them where he ran).  I can honestly say, the way the police were so focused and responded so quickly, I have never felt so safe.  Kudos to the CRPD!
