In the fall I will be a college student at Iowa and I am very excited but I have one small problem, my mother will not let me move out. She thinks I should live at home and commute 35 minutes into Iowa City every day (which i realize is not very much but I dont want to live at home). Everyone around me (my dad, close friends, neighbors, and other family members) say to move out. I know she is afraid of losing me like she lost my brother in a car accident 5 years ago. She still treats me like I am in high school: gives me an 11 o'clock curfew on the weekend, has me check in every hour, has to know who I am with and what i am doing ALL the time. Ive never done anything to destroy her trust but she is just controlling. I have a place to move to but how do I "cut the cord" with her and still maintain a somewhat decent relationship?
