I've been fascinated by severe weather ever since I was a kid.  I remember watching the storms rolling in, and the dark clouds approach.  I was never adventurous enough to venture out into the storm, but things like tornados and hurricanes have never really frightened me.  But for some, the fear is very real.

A new study out of Ball State University found that 1 in 10 people suffer from a phobia of severe weather.  Not just a fear, but a phobia.  Severe weather phobia means you are SO afraid of things like hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes that you feel helpless, lose sleep, obsessively monitor the weather, and sometimes even change your life around to avoid potential bad weather.

I think that this could be especially true if you go through a severe weather disaster.  Many Cedar Rapids residents will never look at the Cedar River the same again after the floods of 2008.

What form of severe weather scares you the most?  Is it a fear or a phobia?
