A rivalry in sports is one of the things that makes life fun. The Cubs and Cardinals have been rivals for as long as baseball has been played. Same league. Same division. And now, thanks to the Cubs winning it all in 2016, World Series Champions. My house, like many others in the midwest, is a house divided when it comes to baseball. I'm a Cardinals fan while Holly loves her Cubbies. The kids are caught tragically in the middle.

Many Cardinal fans will tell you it crushed them last year to see their bitter rivals win the World Series. While I much rather would have had St. Louis win, there was something special about watching Chicago get the curse off their backs. Boston got rid of their curse back in the early 2000's and are now an American League power. Chicago has the look of a team that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They're young, have a great manager and finally competent ownership and the best GM in sports in Theo Epstein. It's enough for Cardinal fans to gag over. But hold on a minute. All this makes the rivalry even better!

The Cubs winning the World Series is the wake-up call the Cardinals needed! St. Louis didn't make the post-season in 2016. They had to watch Chicago's magical run to the title. So what did they do? They went out and signed away one of Chicago's most important players, Dexter Fowler, to play center-field. He's brought renewed enthusiasm to the Cardinal clubhouse. Here's hoping he puts up similar numbers to his two years in Chicago.

Last night the Cubs and Cardinals opened the 2017 season in St. Louis. Opening day...does it get any better for baseball fans? The game was a classic with St. Louis winning in walk-off fashion in the 9th.
