As more and more of those 'goat' shirts began to show up, I started to become annoyed. As a St. Louis Cardinal fan, I don't have any curses associated with my favorite team. As I like to remind people, St. Louis has eleven World Series titles. Curses don't apply. But here were Cubs fans, for years afraid of the goat, now embracing it. Calling it cute. Putting it on t-shirts. Enough! As I sat down and watched this team of destiny play, I was repulsed by the feelings entering my mind. I couldn't hate them. No matter how much I tried, I simply couldn't. What is wrong with me?

Rivalries in sports can be a lot of fun. The Cubs and the Cardinals is a great rivalry. It doesn't matter the record, these two teams want to beat each other's brains in. Last year my heart sank lower than it ever had, after the Cubs knocked my Cardinals out of the playoffs. So this year, I was going to take great pleasure in the Giants...OK, they couldn't do it...the Dodgers....OK, they couldn't either, knocking out the north siders. Now it's up to the Cleveland Indians. Part of me would love to see Cleveland win too. I bet Bob Feller is watching from the heavens.

But I believe these Cubbies are for real. They have the right manager and all the talent in the world playing great in late October. That combo will take home a trophy or two. And even though this team is supposed to be my bitter rivalry, how can you not love the images you saw when they clinched the pennant? Old baseball fans crying at the sight of their team finally getting to the World Series. Fathers and sons embracing over baseball. In our neighborhood in Marion, fireworks were set off from multiple houses after the Cubs clinched. Fireworks! Yes, just as Boston had their moment in time to put their curse to bed, this appears to be the Cub's time. In the end, it will only make the rivalry better.

So what game is Bartman throwing out the first pitch?
