My Favorite Burgers in the Corridor

With the announcement today that Zombie Burger is planning to open a location in Iowa City, burgers are on my mind.

The quest for a great hamburger/cheeseburger can be perilous. You have to wade through a forest of fast food and a plethora of posers. Luckily for you, I've surveyed the landscape in the CR/IC area and have two favorites:

1. Starlite Room (Cedar Rapids) -- The undisputed champion of burgers in CR. This place is an institution because of their burgers. I can save you some time on looking through the menu. Just get the "Super Burger" with a side of onion rings and thank me later.
2. George's Buffet (Iowa City) -- The name of this spot is a misnomer -- it isn't a buffet. In fact, they only serve burgers. And if you're looking for a joint where you can pick and choose from dozens of varieties and options, don't bother with George's. But if you're looking for one of the best burgers in the area, stop in. They make 'em quick, wrap them in wax paper, and bring them out to you. That's it. Get a bag of Sterzing's potato chips, order a cold beer, and savor.
