80% of Americans Think They’re Good Spellers

What?! 80%? Just judging from posts on Facebook, there's no way that's right.

A new survey found that a whopping 80% of Americans think they're good spellers, which makes me think that a lot of people taking this survey are giving themselves a little more credit than they're due! Women are more likely to think this than men, and women also say that they always notice the mistakes of others.

I'm not going to lie, I think I'm pretty good with spelling and grammar, but I am definitely not perfect. I am being EXTREMELY careful not to make any mistakes in this blog, so I don't look like a liar. I do notice easy mistakes pretty frequently, especially when I'm using social media. I'm not one of those people that openly corrects these mistakes, but I do notice, and yes, deep down inside it REALLY bugs me. Here are the top 5 mistakes that bug us the most:

1. When people mix up "their," "there," and they're
2. When people mix up "you're" and "your"
3. Forgetting the first "r" in "FebRuary"
4. When people spell "definitely" as "definitaly" (or my favorite, "defiantley")
5. When people mix up the "i" and "e" in "receive" (remember, "i" before "e" except after "c")
