54-Acre Cedar Rapids Development Awaits City Approval

Even though the Highway 100 extension west of Cedar Rapids won't be fully complete until late 2019, it's spurring the possibility of another development.

The New Buffalo Land Company, developed by Ahmann Companies, has filed an application for a nearly 55-acre site just west of Edgewood Road NE, between Blairs Ferry Road and Collins Road/Highway 100.

Cedar Rapids City Planning Commission Agenda notes show the developer wants to rezone a total of 54.7 acres for a mixed-use development. Plans call for one big box store and several small buildings. Access to the development would include one entrance from Blairs Ferry Road and two from Edgewood Road.

The City Planning Commission will consider the proposal Thursday, October 11. If approved, the plan must be approved by the Cedar Rapids City Council.

The Ahmann Companies developed The Fountains (photo below), just across Edgewood Road from the newly proposed site. Five of the six buildings proposed for The Fountains are already completed. A third office building is still expected to be built.

Ahmann is also working on Peck's Landing (photo below), directly north of The Fountains, across Blairs Ferry Road. Businesses could open in that 20.8-acre development sometime early next year.
