4th Wal-Mart In Cedar Rapids Is Proposed: East Post & Mt. Vernon

The Southeast side may soon have a Wal-Mart to call it's own. Cedar Rapids city officials are discussing the options with the company to put a SuperStore on Mt. Vernon Rd at East Post.

This store would, if approved, join the Marion, Blairs Ferry and Edgewood locations to bring the city total to 4.

Residents are concerned about increased traffic in that area and city leaders are trying to determine if that would be an issue. That part of town is 4-lanes, but reduced to only 2 travelling east down the hill on Mt. Vernon.

I'm sure Hy-Vee has an opinion on another grocery provider in that neighborhood. If the mega store wants to swing in to an area underserved in the big box world, they probably will. Similar fights have been fought around the nation. Bentonville has an attorney arm of the company that has won many such battles.

How strong of a fight will be interesting to see unfold. We may have another great opportunity to take a look at the Tall Corn State People Of Wal-Mart.
