One of the silliest superstitions out there is that a black cat crossing your path is bad luck. It's utterly ridiculous, but then again what superstition isn't? This Friday is one of two Friday the 13th's in 2017 (the other is in October) and I decided to see just how many loving, black cats were available in local shelters. Unfortunately, there's a bunch.

I had a mostly black cat for more than 10 years. Anyone who knew him (he passed away many years ago), would tell you he was definitely partial to me. One of my favorite things was when he would knead my arm with his front paws. To me, it was the ultimate show of love. One of these could be the perfect fit to provide some love to your family.

Click on each of their photos for more information and consider adopting one from either the Cedar Valley Humane Society or Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control.
