For most of us, Thanksgiving is a day of family, football, and stuffing so much food in your face that you no longer have the ability to walk. But, for some Americans, Thanksgiving is just another workday. 24% of people, to be exact. A survey asked workers the likely-hood that they will have to work on a major holiday, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, and nearly a quarter of Americans said it was very likely.

As an ex-retail employee, I've worked every holiday in the book. And as much as it sucks, sometimes it does have it's perks. On one particular Thanksgiving, the managers actually brought us in a full turkey dinner, which was incredibly nice. Many employers also pay extra for working on holidays, and some even close early, which can also be a plus. I'm assuming that's why 44% of the people who say they will work the holiday are actually CHOOSING to work, but we can't know for sure.

So, if you're out and about on a holiday this year, make sure to appreciate the people who are on the clock!
